One ramp instead of three

Most premium brands sell a separate ramp for the couch, the bed and the boot. Ours adjusts across four heights from 16 to 22 inches, which covers a low sofa, a tall bed and the back of most cars with a single piece of furniture. That also means the ramp keeps working when you move house or change the sofa. It carries dogs and cats up to 132 lb, so it suits a dachshund who cannot reach and a Labrador you should not be lifting equally well.

Grip along the whole length

A ramp only works if your dog trusts her footing on it, and trust is built on the first few attempts. The surface is heavy-duty carpet running the full length rather than a strip down the middle, and six removable wooden grip strips let you add extra traction wherever your dog actually hesitates. Senior paw pads and tentative cat claws need different things, so the strips come out and move. The slope is long and gentle, which is easier on arthritic hips than the short, steep ramps sold as space savers.

Folds flat and carries one-handed

A ramp that lives in the middle of the room gets resented, and a resented ramp gets put away, and a ramp in the cupboard helps nobody. This one folds to under three inches thick, so it slides between the sofa and the wall or leans against a piece of furniture without looking like medical equipment. At 12 lb with a side handle it moves from room to room one-handed, or out to the car and back. No assembly; it opens out of the box.
