Open Amazon and search for a dog ramp. You'll find a hundred listings from sellers you've never heard of, made by companies you'll never hear from again. Most of them work. They get the job done. They also have no story, no brand, no point of view, and no one to call when something goes wrong.
On the other end of the market, you'll find the artisan workshop ramps — solid maple, hand-built, $400 to $600. Beautiful. Wildly out of reach for most pet parents who just want their senior dog to stop hesitating at the couch.
We started Henley & Bone for the gap in the middle.
Two tests
Every product we make passes two tests: would a vet recommend it, and would a designer want it in their living room? If both are true, we sell it. If not, we don't.
This is harder than it sounds. The pet aisle is full of products that pass one test or the other. Vet-recommended products with no design point of view.
